I remember when Facebook appeared. My grandmother had just turned 80 and was grappling with it, and I was shocked. She told me then: my life taught me to move along with the times and not remain stuck in times that no longer exist. I kept that with me. When AI appeared, I saw the same moment and the same choice.
AI is not doing the healing. What it is doing is holding the frameworks I have spent more than fifteen years working inside – Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, somatic awareness, shadow work, depth psychology – and making them available at the moment a person actually needs them. Not in a session. Not after a waitlist. Teaching a system to understand the principles behind this work, not the surface language of it but the actual mechanisms, is some of the hardest work I have done. Every question these tools ask was earned.
I took on the challenge of learning, at 50, a completely new skill, because I saw what it could make possible. These tools exist because I cannot sit with everyone who needs this kind of work. Most people who do will never book a session with anyone. They will find something like this, alone, and it will be the first time something has named what they are carrying. I hope you give at least one of them a try.
